Fiscal sponsors steward billions in philanthropic dollars. But they could do so much more.

Earlier this summer, our team at Proximate launched Common Ground – a reporting beat, curated with Social Impact Commons, that dives into the quiet but powerful world of fiscal sponsorship.

Fiscal sponsors have matured into a major part of the social sector in the United States, managing tens of thousands of grassroots projects and stewarding billions of philanthropic dollars each year. We've reported on the rise of peer-governance in fiscal sponsorship; the uneasy entry of tech into the ecosystem; and how fiscal sponsors can help nonprofits survive political threats in the second Trump administration.

Now we're adding a new thread: a running series of predictions from people working in and around the field. What trends are emerging? What rules are shifting? What futures are possible?

We're publishing predictions below – and we're still open to submissions through September. Send your idea to hello@proximate.press.
