Grassroots Grantmaking

From trust-based philanthropy to participatory philanthropy, keeping up with the latest in participation.

  • Porticus, a large Netherlands-based foundation, has been on a journey to explore participatory approaches in their work for a few years now. I've had a chance to peek at their internal decks, and the work has indeed been extensive, touching every aspect of the organization. Their new report found several "concrete examples of evidence" supporting the effectiveness of participatory approaches.
  • The Porticus report comes aside a number of other reflections on participatory grantmaking processes, including the Global Fund for Children’s Trust In Action report, and a Fund For Shared Insight’s blog on tensions in their PGM process. They’re a few more resources to add to the more than 175 already out there.

Proximate is an independent media platform covering movements for participatory problem-solving. We look at the news through the lens of money: how it’s given away, how it’s invested, and how it’s distributed by government.
We are a fiscally sponsored project of Movement Strategy Center.
